A Message from our President - 2008
Salt Lake enjoys a creative exuberance that manifests itself
in high quality, diverse, and thought provoking art. The many
art galleries in our community provide the basis for a lively
art experience. Regardless of whether you are a collector or not,
there is much to be gleaned by pure association.
Founded in 1983, the Salt Lake Gallery Association began as
a small consortium of fine art galleries. Today we encompass over
twenty members and our common goal remains: the promotion of the
best art Salt Lake City has to offer. Through exhibitions, collections,
temporary projects and outreach programs, the SLGA offers enjoyment
and opportunities for culture, inspiration, inquiry and reflection.
The SLGA seeks to remove intellectual, social and physical barriers
to the enjoyment and understanding of art; we strive to broaden
our audience and improve the quality of their experiences. To
that end, our galleries stay open until 9 PM on the third Friday
of every month for the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll, providing an
opportunity for art enthusiasts to tour their exhibits after hours.
The arts organizations presented in this brochure embody a diversity
of artwork. Proudly, the majority is produced by local artists.
We are pleased that you have picked up this guide. We look forward
to sharing with you the extraordinary art world of Salt Lake City.
Sincerely,
Meri DeCaria
Salt Lake Gallery Association President
A Message from our President - 2007
Founded in 1983, the Salt Lake Gallery Association
began as a small consortium of fine art galleries. Our common
goal remains; the promotion of the best fine art Salt Lake City
has to offer. Through exhibitions, collections, temporary projects
and outreach programs, the SLGA offers enjoyment and opportunities
for culture, inspiration, inquiry and reflection.
Art provides a mirror for the self. It can contribute to the
relating of individual, social and cultural histories and deepen
the understanding of a complex and rapidly changing world. Artists
and the organizations that show and support their work make a
significant, dynamic and imaginative contribution to economic
prosperity, to education, to furthering social equity and to encouraging
a creative workforce.
The SLGA seeks to remove intellectual, social and physical barriers
to the enjoyment and understanding of art; we aim to broaden our
audience and improve the quality of their experiences. To that
end, our most successful event to date is Gallery Stroll. On the
third Friday of each month our members stay open until 9 PM. We
are pleased to note that 2006 marks the declaration of Gallery
Stroll as a non-profit entity of its own. This will open doors
for further community involvement through this vibrant monthly
event.
The thirty arts organizations of the SLGA offer the art viewer
the opportunity to discover the vitality of the arts in Salt Lake
City. We look forward to seeing you and welcoming you into the
extraordinary art world of Salt Lake City.
Sincerely,
Meri DeCaria
