A Message from our President - 2010
Art Galleries are a place where the heart and mind are brought
together to generate relevant knowledge and spiritual understanding.
We hope you will leave with a more reflective mind, a capacity
for deeper inquiry and a heightened appreciation of others and
their ideas. In so doing we hope you will attend one of Salt Lake’s
most successful and longest running social events; the Gallery
Stroll, where month after month we observe a celebration of our
creative abundance. Proudly, the majority of work is produced
by Utah artists. This community building affair brings many in
Salt Lake together in support of the local culture. Our roots
are strong and the art that ensues is extraordinary.
While some find comfort in a crowd, it is the true art connoisseur
who frequents galleries between openings/strolls. For many, a
gallery visit serves as refuge from the quotidian, feeding the
soul and recharging the spirit. If you’ve picked this guide
up you already know; it‘s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
We encourage you to inquire about the artwork. We are anxious
to help you learn about the distinctive character of our region.
Your support for the arts has many positive effects for Utah
and our economy; it cultivates jobs, is important for tourism,
and is a great way for us to celebrate what is distinctively Utah.
The arts organizations that comprise the Salt Lake Gallery Association
promote the best fine art Salt Lake City has to offer. Considering
the diversity between the galleries, we encourage you to visit
them all.
Sincerely,
Meri DeCaria

A Message from our President - 2009
Sharing the thrill of art is the greatest joy for those in the
art business. This is a profession of deep passion and human insight.
Indulgence in the considerable quality of life gained by all when
a work resonates with the viewer, is the pièce de résistance.
The gallery finds a fit for the artists work. The patron receives
a lifetime of visual stimulation and the artist is provided validity
for his/her effort. Finding art that resonates is nothing short
of pure delight. The catch is, once you are caught up in art’s
allure it is nearly impossible to get enough and why would you
want to?
Utah is fortunate to boast a solid foundation of exceptional
artists. As a result a growing number of residents and tourists
take pleasure in sustaining their efforts. Strong support for
the arts has many positive effects for Utah and our economy; it
cultivates jobs, is important for tourism, and is a great way
for us to celebrate local culture. Artists simply make cities
more attractive to live in.
The original driving force of our visual art scene continues
to be the Salt Lake Gallery Association. Over twenty members each
embody a diversity of artwork. Proudly, the majority is produced
by local artists. Our common goal remains: the promotion of the
best visual art Salt Lake City has to offer.
We seek to remove intellectual, social and physical barriers
to the enjoyment and understanding of art; we strive to expand
our audience and enhance the value of their experiences. Consequently,
our most popular event is Gallery Stroll. On the third Friday
of each month our galleries stay open until 9 PM, providing an
extended opportunity for art enthusiasts to tour their exhibits.
As a nonprofit entity, the Gallery Stroll raises support to further
promote this lively event.
We are pleased that you have picked up this guide. We look forward
to sharing with you the creative exuberance of Salt Lake City.
Sincerely,
